RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I would not waste money on either the standard Leupold or the standard Weaver mounts. THEY BOTH SUCK!!!!!!!!!
The only Weaver style base, if you want to use that style base, is the Weaver Grand Slam base. It is milled from a solid bar of steel and much, much better than the standard aluminum Weaver base. Comes with Torx screws also. Add a good set of steel rings, like Millett, Warne, or Burris on these bases and you've got a good rugged setup, more so than the standard Leupold setup.
The standard Leuplod mounts, with the front dovetail and 2 screw rear lock up are crap, just that plain and simple. I wouldn't recommend these to any one considering doing any kind of serious hunting or shooting. I've seen many, a rear mount problem on these style mounts/rings. Yes it does allow for windage adjustments, but just overtighten the screw or have a sharp blow to the scope, and the lip on the ring will shear off. Then you are up the creek without a floatation device.
I use Warne and Talley mounts and rings mostly on my big game hunting rifles. These mounts and rings look good and are very, very rugged. But on my tactical, long range, and varmints rifle nothing but Badger Ordnance or M.W.G. tactical bases and rings.
