RE: Bow for my 4yr old??????
My son's first bow was a cheap 9 lb. pull longbow. I set it up nice for him and he got pretty good with it at 5 to 7 yards. Last fall (2002) when he turned 5, I searched everywhere for a little compound. Almost everything has a way to long of draw length. He needed about a 14" draw. Finally after playing with a new Hoyt Banshee (kids compound) we got it down to 12 lbs. of pull and 14 1/2" draw. Its was awsome! Now he just turned 6 and I've change the draw length 3 times this past year. (It takes about 2 seconds) He is now at about 24 lbs. of pull. The nice thing is this bow still has alot of room for expansion. He shoots 4" groups at 7 to 10 yards. At 24 lbs. his arrow flies very nice to 20 yards. His groups at 20 yards are about 12". At the end of last year he was able to bowfish with me. Yes he shot fish! I set his bow up with a retreiver reel and a short solid fiberglass carp arrow. Really really fun!!
I set up his bow with a peep, 6 Beman Hawk Carbon arrows ( cut to about 23"), sight HHA Otimizer Lite (single pin adjustable) Youth Cobra caliper release (which I shorted the neck 1") and the rest is a Boodoodle 3 Prong Zapper (holds arrow, can't fall off).
He loves the bow and always wants to go shooting. the only thing I'm going to change this year is the rest. We're going to try a Whisker Biscuit quick load.
WE"RE PLANNING ON DOING ALOT OF BOWFISHING THIS SPRING/SUMMER!!!
Have fun!
