ORIGINAL: James B Has anyone tried the pyrodex pellets in a side lock? Mine is precussion. I have been temped to try them. I love the things in my in-line.
As a rule, the Pyrodex pellets must be fired in a gun which has a centrally located hole in the breechblock from which the primer flash flies right into the middle of the black powder booster on the end of the pellet. I have a couple of guns with "semi-patent" breeches that have a centrally located hole at the end of the flash channel. I have "MAG-SPARK" nipples on these guns that use No. 209 shotgun primers. These guns will fire the pellets OK, but I still mainly use loose powder in these guns. I agree with CAYUGAD that loose powder is better. It allows you to develop custom "best" loads, which the "fixed-weight" pellets don't permit!
