RE: varmit rifle
Savages are good guns. All I've witnessed are VERY accurate (never owned one, yet). The accutrigger is sweet too...I can't wait until all the manufacturer come out with a similar system.
I own a Ruger M77VT MkII in 22-250 (26" BBL), with a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 scope in Ruger rings that consistantly shoots sub-MOA with an average of .75 MOA roughly with Winchester White Box 45gr JHP. I've also chrony'd this load and it smokes 'em through the screens at a mean of 4025fps (standard deviation of 39fps, extreme spread 123) with the chrony 15ft from the muzzle.
I also tested the Winchester Super-X 55gr JSP, which through the same chrony (15ft from muzzle) clocked a mean of 3681fps (St. Dev. 36fps, Ex. Spread 125fps). The accuracy of this load was <.75 MOA comsistant, with two of the 4 5-shot groups <.5 MOA.
But the 45gr JHP's are cheaper so I shoot those mostly. I'm probably going to try some different brands of Factory ammo when the weather gets warmer, but I've been shooting Winchester thusfar just for the brass. Maybe someday when I get a reloading setup I will reload them.
