Well I am still not seeing very many birds hens included. I only had 1 big tom gobble back and that was only 1 time. It’s strange hunting with no gobbling and mostly seeing them moving in the early afternoon. I did manage to get a shot at 1 and I lost it. I was using Remington Nitro Turkey loads which was the only turkey rounds I could find. It knocked him down at around 20 yards. I thought for sure I had it with it flapping around on the ground and all. As I was walking up to it. It got up and ran so I put another round in and by then it was around 80 yards. I figured it was already hit once so I may as well try again. Knowing that I would be very lucky to knock it down at that distance. No I wasn’t lucky at all and with that experience I went looking in the place I was in before the season opened. What did I come across this time? Some Winchester DoubleX!! So yes I grabbed 2 boxes and they only had a limited supply of them. So hopefully I can get something on the board shortly.. I did manage to try a new area around 50 miles north of here and saw a quite a few hens. When heading out 8 jakes crossed a dirt road in front of me. But that was it and hopefully the turkey hunting will soon be picking up..
