I've always read good things about the 28 but never found one in a model I liked at a price I liked. I cut my teeth on a 20 gauge and still use it for everything except waterfowl where the 12 gets the nod. I have a CZ Pheasant SxS for upland birds and a Rem 870 youth that is a deadly turkey thumper out to 40 yards with Win Super X #5 shot.
I have two .410 single shots that I keep around just for fun. I usually have one around the camp as a snake charmer!
I've read that the 28 ga like the 16 are such good under used shotgun gauges because of their shot capacity. Not so much the amount of shot but the length of the shot column in reference to their diameter.
