just a bit of hands on field experience ,
I've generally used a 10" 44 mag revolver when handgun hunting with a 310 grain hard cast bullet over 21 grains of H110

this has proven to be very effective on anything walking on 4 hooves I've shot,
and in many cases I got projectile exits.
I have tried the 45 ACP on deer and hogs and while its surely lethal with a well placed shot the difference,
in reaction I've seen from game when it is used is very noticeable,

I've almost always got a trailing job and a considerable distance traveled, by game, I've never yet had an exit,
and I generally use a 230 grain hollow point or 230 grain hard cast bullet. generally over about 7 grains of unique,
which in newer manuals is considered an overly hot load.
the difference in the penetration is quite obvious ,
I've had considerably better results with a 357 mag revolver using a 158-170 grain weight, hard cast bullet

the 45 acp might be fine for close range defensive work, but the 44 revolver has proven to be much better on hogs & deer.
if you want to use a semi auto a glock 10mm with a 6" aftermarket barrel has proven to be an improvement.

I should point out most deer in florida weight under 120- 130 lbs as do most hogs
