Just to clarify one point the op brought up about hunting big game out of a helicopter. It is a violation of federal law to hunt big game out of an aircraft. I believe there is one exception which for some reason allows hunting feral hogs in Texas from a helicopter. I make this post not to criticize the op but rather to educate him on a point of law and certainly ethics.
In that case, the horse or mule gets the nod as the transportation vehicle in the field if one's body is just too weak to be hoofing it all the way. Hay is cheaper than helicopter fuel too. However, I thought about using a helicopter to insert the hunter on the ground near the spotted elk herd or bull moose then later retracting the hunter after the score is made. Insertion and retraction in the field: think about Army Hueys in vietnam.
