In my haste, I neglected to mention in my first above: traditional lever action 45colts will offer considerable accuracy advantage over a traditional 12ga pump gun most guys will own. Something like the Savage bolt action slug gun stomps most leverguns, but when you’re talking about the traditional comparison of a Marlin 1894 and a Rem 870, the 1894 has a significant accuracy advantage.
Anecdotally, I willingly hunt with leverguns, but can’t be bothered to hunt with slug guns. I do not live in a straightwall only zone, but have hunted with both. But any given season, I will likely haul a levergun in 44mag or 45-70 after hogs or deer. It’s been over a decade since I’ve elected to haul a shotgun afield after big game.
