I know it happens to everyone, but IMO, the best way to track an animal starts with the shooter. If you have time to make a good clean shot, there should be no reason to have to track an animal very far. I realize there are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, if you have done your part as a shooter ( practicing, being comfortable with your weapon and the range you are shooting, waiting for a good shot and not rushing etc. ) You shouldn't have a very extensive tracking job.
