The past couple of weeks were interesting. My first hunt was a bust. Many miles of hiking through rough country in high winds near Laramie but no elk on the ranch I had permission to hunt. My second hunt was near Douglas and it resulted in an easy elk in the freezer. I signed my tag about an hour after legal shooting light. With elk it is a roll of the dice after the rut is over. Later in the season they want to get in large herds and sometimes all of the elk in the area are simply somewhere else, and sometimes a fellow gets lucky..
