Wearing Orange on WMA’s During Deer Season

Deer hunting season is upon us! We at the Palmetto Conservation Foundation want you enjoy the Palmetto Trail and be safe by being visible. Now it is also a legal requirement in Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). The new law is as follows:
If our maps indicate hunting is allowed on public land, it is best to assume it falls under the new law and it is required to wear international blaze orange. It is also possible that the Palmetto Trail travels through private land that allows for hunting. While hunting is not allowed within a certain distance (depending on the passage) of the trail it is best to wear international blaze orange during the hunting season.
Act 18: This Act requires that “All nonexempt persons must wear a hat, coat, or vest of solid international orange while on Wildlife Management Area lands during deer hunting season.”
Please visit the Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) website for more information.
