This speculation has been passed around a lot recently, but it is NOT supported by the SAAMI specs for the rounds.

The SAAMI spec for the .350 Legend is .357”-0.003”, whereas the .357 max, like the .357magnum and 38spcl, is .359-.003” for lead and .358”-0.003” for jacketed bullets. They all use the same .355” groove & .346” bore specification. Guys have mic’d the factory ammo to reflect .355” bullets being used. As noted, ODNR doesn’t care - they’ve listed it as legal for use, but it has raised the question.

Personally, I never have been satisfied by using .358” rifle bullets in .357 max or .357/44 B&D, but drawing them down with the Lee sizing die is a quick, easy, and inexpensive step to ensure fit.
