Food, scat, and food. (they love to eat) If you live in an agriculture area where bears are present go talk to the farmers. Bears love corn as soon as it gets milky. they'll eat a ton of it. If you in big woods you have to find a food source. Bears love beech nuts. But they'll eat almost anything. Berries, acorns, carrion, fish etc.
If you find an area with lots of scat you're in a good spot. IMO this means there is food close by. And if some of the scat is the size of a dinner plate you've located a big one.
