From what I understand is that if a bullet diameter is slightly under groove diameter the vaporized lead will flow around the bullet and cause severe leading. Why then does Lee make all their .45 cal rifle bullets to .457" rather than .458" or .459".
Now if a .457" bullet is fired down the bore of a rifle or .458" groove diameter, will a veggie wad protect the base of the bullet from this flowing or would a better solution be to size the bullet down to .453" and paper patch bringing it up to .459"?
I'm asking all these questions because I enjoy casting bullets and have been casting for years for my muzzleloaders. But I'm fairly new to casting for CFs. If I can get this down in my .45-70s I may even try to cast for my .30 cals (30-30, .30-06, etc. (with gas checks of course))
Paul in your bullet above it is a .458" bullet. How can you size to .459"? Now you really are trying to confuse me...LOL
