Consistency is the name of the game IMO, along with some shooting basics, like controlling your breathing and not jerking the trigger.
My old Garand is half shot out, but will still group just fine. I used to check my zero by cutting quarter inch thick sticks at fifty yards. Something about how this rifle fits and familiarity just makes it work for me.
