I have a Canadian Mountain Caribou that was in full velvet when I shot it in 1999. The outfitter liberally painted the antlers with turpentine, nail pricked the ends of the points, and hung the antlers upside down in the shade.
As soon as I got home, my taxidermist sent the antlers off to be freeze dried. The antlers still look like they did the day that I shot him.
