I'm somewhat torn when it comes to this. The main reason I would not choose a rifle with beautiful wood is I'd hate to have a gun I'm scared to take out when it's misty or raining, or to take through a briar patch.
I find laminated wood stocks models with specially-coated metal parts to be quite a nice balance, though. I wish they were more standard, and not only in grey.
