The Germans would call it a carbine, recoil loading, machine rifle. A sporting model is semi automatic, a military model can fire full automatic.

They fall somewhere in the middle as far as rifles go, not the biggest or fastest round, not the slowest or smallest round. It has a slightly larger bullet and maybe 20% more velocity than an American M-1 Carbine.

The AK 47 is mostly famous for it's reliability, it can take a lot of abuse, rust, dust, mud or whatever and keep on working. It's reliability is due in large part to the shape of the cartridge case, the cartridge case is slightly wedge shaped.

A bit marginal for larger game, OK for Roe Deer or Hog Deer.
