Drew my second IL turkey permit. Hunting private property in Madison County, IL. Six day season. IL sure does not make it easy for turkey hunters. They have to expect the permit to be filled. So, theoretically that turkey will be shot thus reducing the population. I don't understand why they limit hunters to one fifth (approx.) of a 30+ day season. Maybe to lower success rates thus not expecting all tags to be filled. Now that I type this, it is likely a money grab.
Typical IL reasoning << We can issue more permits and collect more fees if we decrease the success rate by limiting the hunters ability to harvest a bird. >>
Landowners get the full turkey season to fill a tag which sure takes a lot of pressure off the hunter. One free permit too. I sold my ground which sucks for me.
This is IL. So, nothing political/regulatory surprises me unless it is beneficial for the citizen.
I don't believe in jinx. Count me in for at least one gobbler. Ha ha!
April 16th opening day for me.
