I actually hunt deer mostly at 0 feet from the ground. However when I do use a stand for bear and the odd time for other game I hang it 15-18 feet high. Biggest thing is backing, so don' t go to high or to low to give away your location, deer can pick off outlines and silhoutttes very good.
