Did you read the attachment ? 50 grains of black powder in a .44 cal revolver is a stout load, some use that load in a rifle today. There are still black powder revolvers in use and some here have probably chronograph their loads. Those old guns were not pea shooters, Hickok carried 36 caliber navy Colts and they were stout enough to put many men under the ground. A cast lead bullet is a cast lead bullet, then and now and since those folks lives depended on their firearms I suspect they were pretty particular how they made them. I wouldn't be too sure today's black powder is all that much less potent then back then either.
