I have a pair of 1873 SAA Colt .45's and can tell you with absolutely no uncertainty that they are FAR from anemic. With my loads (240gr Cast over 31gr Swiss 3F) I have no problems whatsoever knocking hogs on their butts at 50 yards. I've chronied that load for an average of 800FPS and with those hard casts they punch right on through that cartilage and shoulder like a hot knife through butter.
Oh I realize what can be done today, but am wondering what was done back then. What were the ballistics on the rounds being fired in the 1870s? I mean what FPS were they getting from say a .45 colt which was pretty popular? Maybe a typical bullet weight?
