I'm absolutely hooked on mountain hunting, now. It provides so many advantages in allowing one to sneak within range of deer (thanks to the ridge cover) and actually see them (thanks to elevation---it's practically like hunting from a 60ft stand when gazing downhill), when one plays the wind of course. It's wonderfully rugged hunting, too, quite literally hiking and hunting at the same time. I'm willing to bet rugged terrain in the Southeast even on public land hides some excellent deer people aren't willing to seriously go after.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to put that theory to the test by doing some late-season stalking in Tennessee's southern section of the Cherokee National Forest before Christmas, where/when bear, deer, and hogs are all still legal game. After the new year, a grouse hunt will be in order!

I love this rifle---my first gun, a Remington 673, .308 Winchester. Hard to beat the the layered beech stock for looks, and the 22" barrel for handling!
