Couple hundred fps slower, but less powder, Lapua brass, and fits in a short action without needing to cram longer bullets down into the powder space. Take your pick as to whether anything but the brass is a "real advantage" to you or not.
It's not magic, and doesn't really do anything a dozen other cartridges before it didn't do, but it's the hot new thing, the talk of the town. When it falls short of a more powerful cartridge, the guys get to say the barrel life is better and recoil is less, when it matches an existing cartridge, guys get to say it truly fits in a short action, when it recoils more than a .243AI or 6br, they say it bucks the wind better... Always something it does better for everything it does worse.
I wanted an excuse to buy a Ruger Precision Rifle (guilty pleasure - like riding a motor scooter), but didn't want another 308 or 243. Doesn't do anything my 260, 280, 7-08, Swede, 7maus, or even really my 243AI don't do, and doesn't keep up with a handful of them - the 280, 7maus and x55, 7wsm, 7rm, etc... Would have bought a 7-08 RPR with glee. Would still kinda like to have one in .300wm, or maybe even 338LM or 338-300.
