I have to agree with the others here. Other hunters' dogs can really ruin your trip, but it' s not the end of hope. I' m not going to tell you how to scout or where to set up, but I would find an area that either specifically bans dogs during deer season, or one that has a low hunter density (rough terrain, far from access roads, etc.).
And as far as using a crossbow, rifle, or treestand--ignore the elitists. Each hunter has his/her preferred weapons, and no one else can choose a weapon for him/her. I' ve been shooting rifles for years, so a .30-06 is my first choice. Yes, it has a lot of power, but it' s certainly not too much. Millions of other deer hunters would agree. Now if you were using a .338, I' d have to look at you a little funny.
