Last year, I decided to try squirrel hunting for the first time in years. See, I originally quit hunting squirrels because I didn't find shooting them with a shotgun to be very sporting. No offense to those of you who do use shotguns; it's just not my cup of tea. What changed this time was earlier in the year while helping my grandfather organize his gun safe, I saw that he had a 22 caliber Ruger Mark II topped with a Leupold 4x power handgun scope. When the handgun hunter in me expressed interest in it, he offered to let me borrow it.
While our squirrel season opens near the end of August, I decided to wait until October to start hunting. I wanted to wait until the weather cooled off and the leaves started falling. I ended up getting five squirrels with a handgun that month. In fact, the first one I took was my first ever handgun kill.
Can't wait for squirrel season this year.
