Tealboy,
I would recommend the 260 Remington for several reasons:
1. mild recoil
2. exceptionally accurate.
3. flat trajectoy
4. It holds the 100 short course record for NRA Highpower Rifle Competition. The previous record was held for 41 years.
5. The current record holder is Michelle Gallagher
6. The course involves 20 shots standing at 200 yards (60 seconds) , 2 10 rd strings sitting rapid fire at 300 yards. 2-10 round strings prone at 300 yards (70 seconds) and 2 20 shot strings at 600 yards slow fire prone. She shot a 999 out of possible 1000 points

To talk to her at a match you would never get the impression that she in all probability is getting ready to whip you and chances are quite good everyone else on the range that day and she weighs maybe 110 lbs.
The 260 with the right sights is good for up to 1000 yards.
I have been recommending it to local deer hunters and they love theirs.
