RE: So I' ve been thinkin about the antler restrictions...
Boy howdy did you strike a nerve[:@] Here in Ga. we have the dubious distinction of being the first state in the nation to adopt the QDM rule on a county wide basis. Now the problem is spreading across the state county by county. Here it is a 4 pt on one side rule. I have come across more carcasses that were abandoned because the hunter mistakenly shot a 3pt on one side and left the animal out of fear of the Game Wardens making cases agains them. I shot a 6 pointer last year about 300yds behind my house and the local processor would not accept it because of the 4 point rule. I wound up taking to the local warden and " donating" it to the feed the hungry progam(which is a wonderful program). But I received a stern lecture from the Game Warden for not being absolutely sure that the buck was a 4pt on sider. But when I asked the warden to age the deer it made no differnece that he aged it at about 8 yrs old. The base of the antlers was about 2.5 inches but the beams were mishapened and this buck was obviously on his down hill slide. This year I have already seen several bucks that are the apparent offspring of this old guy. Not one of them even look remotely like they are going to have " QUALITY" racks and some of them I have seen for the 3rd season now. So, I think that we need to unelect those individuals who vote to enact such screwy laws and that indeed will send the appropriate message to capital hill in our respective states. Managment by all means, but with a bit of common sense will go a lot further than saying that a 13 yr old boy who is looking down the pin at his first buck and then having to pass it up because it doesn' t have 4 points on one side.
