After seeing a big problem on the range over the years oh my .58, I decided to fix it. Later I will most likely replace it with brass so it looks better.
When I'd smack the ball, the starter would some times turn sideways. On a hunch, I loaded it up one night and sent my bore camera down and found that when it does it, it actually turns the spruce off center! I honestly don't know if that ever hurt my accuracy or not, but the little muzzle protector in place now keeps my short starter straight when I push the patched ball down the bore.
We'll see how she does on the range tomorrow.
Also ran 18 shots down range yesterday with every from 20 grains 2fg goes to 80gr 2fg goex to see how the polishing lube works out.
