I don't care who you are hunting with, a late season (late December) hunt in Illinois is going to be really, really, really, S-L-O-W. By that time of year the deer are FULLY nocturnal. Your only hope, and the only exception, would hunting immediately after a mega-blizzard or during a polar vortex.
