Only thing you can do is hunt as much as you can and hunt the wind. Might want to try out a different spot he's going to, if you know of any more places he's visiting. With you getting busted by him and as smart as he is, I don't think he'll be visiting that specific spot again.
I'm not positive he knows what he was smelling He didn't spook he just turned and walked away (like the big boys usually do). I only have one picture of him in the daylight and that was Aug 4th. I got some pictures of him real early in the morning though and took a guess on where he was bedding from there and set up about 100 yards out and sure enough he was there.
I'll try to see what he does next. I figure a buck like that probably smells something he don't care for several times a day and avoids it but doesn't relocate. If anything he is probably more likely to just go full blown nocturnal than relocate.
I'll see how it goes. I thought I had a chance and I took it. He got me this time.
