Default 2nd Shooting Lehigh 40x215 in 1-30 Twist

Let me start this by once again saying - that mathematically the 40x215 CF should not shoot from a slow twist rifle.

I was able to get to the farm this morning and the mission was to shoot the new Lehigh 40x215 CF bullet. If you read the previous post you know that I mentioned that I had shoot a couple of 215 yesterday while shooting the new 40x185's. Those two shots indicated that there might be some hope for shooting this new bullet from a slower twist rifle.

This morning was a little warmer than yesterday day but I really wanted to do this activity. So headed out to farm to get setup. At the farm I placed the target near the same spot as I had yesterday - I forgot the range finder so I could not get the exact distance. When I paced back to the shooting bench it was 123 paces - so I believe I am very close to 100 yards.

Also a thought to consider, I was shooting a 110 grains of T7 for this shoot. I normally shoot 120 grains while hunting but since these bullets should not shoot from the 1-30 I did drop the charge hoping to induce the tumble if it were going to happen. Another factor that might play into this is that I am shooting at about 2600 ft. of elevation in high 70* temperature.

I ended up shooting to groups and a OOP's. The OOP's was my own doing trying to move the front Caldwell rest to the right with my left hand while the right hand trigger finger was on the trippger - OOP's.

The first group was shot with my normal MMP Tan sabot the second group of 3 was shot using a Harvester Light Blue Sabots.

Here is the target... Even with this target - Nothing has really been proved about shooting this bullet shooting from a slow twist 45 cal. rifle.

I really did want to set the target out to longer range but walking through the Garbanzo Field sounded like I was killing 100's of big beetles and I was even trying to be careful. At some point I will get those long range shots...

And a couple more pics to show some of the shooting expedition
