Like I said Pete, I'm basically shooting instinctive and barrel sighting/extension of my arm with open sights. I'm the type that "picks a hair" and shoots at that hair! If I don't feel comfortable enough to lay in a perfect shot I wont take it. Blurry rear sights makes that pretty darn difficult.
Oldtimr, I had a Williams peep on my .444 Marlin for a long time. It does help a little but it was getting a bit on the fuzzy side too so I put some glass on that one as well.
