A knife and a saw seems to work pretty well for me. However, If you need to ask what kind of tools are required to do it, I would presume that you have never had the occasion to field dress and then butcher a deer.

I learned by watching other people do it, then later on by trial and error. It' s the natural way of things. You are most likely gonna mess up a little on your first few times.

My only advice is this; don' t over complicate it...Man has been killing and eating other animals since the dawn of time. I' m sure that there are some folks who can do a good job of butchering with just a sharp rock. If you don' t have someone available to show you " how" then there are probably plenty of books and video' s available to show you how.

As a side note, I probably field dressed and butchered a dozen deer before I started getting really good " quality" cuts of meat.
