Default Firearms safety rules

Here is a list of firearms safety rules prioritized.

- Always treat every firearm as loaded, whether loaded or not.

- Never point a firearm at anyone or anything that you do not intend to kill.

- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are going to shoot.

- Keep the safety on until you are ready to shoot.

- Be aware of your target, what's behind your target, what's in front of your target, and what's to the sides of your target, before you shoot.

- Hold your firearm on target, or at low ready with the target in sight, or at port arms, or slung, or holstered at all times when not locked up and stored.

- Never leave a firearm unattended.

- Never hand a firearm to another person without first unloading it and making it safe.

- Always make sure a firearm handed to you is unloaded and safe.

- At a shooting range, never touch a firearm during a cease fire period.

- Never go down range until the range is safe and the line is clear.

- Never commence firing until the range is clear and the line is ready after the cease fire period is over.

- When hunting never cross a barrier or obstacle without first unloading your firearm and making it safe.

- Never handle a firearm while inside a vehicle.

- Always stay online and abreast of others never leading or following anyone while carrying a firearm.

This list has evolved for me over time and many years of shooting and hunting. Thought it might be useful to others especially to beginners or less experienced shooters/hunters.
