Default Reduced Recoil 308 Win. Ammo

A good friend of mine came to hunt with me. Brought is 55#, 8 year old son. I set up my Styer Prohunter in 308 Win. for the boy. Removed two stock spacers and sighted in Hornady 308 Win. "Reduced Recoil" ... 125 gr. SST. The stuff grouped pretty well. This was my first experience with reduced .

Second afternoon out, the youngster bagged his first deer ever .... a 110#, 6 pt. buck. The shot was a tad back but caught enough of the liver to do the job. He shot it at around 4:15 p.m. After he and his dad made an initial search, they marked a blood spot and wisely backed off. I brought Ellie in to track, arriving around 7:00 p.m. Took her about 25 minutes. The buck went about 350 yards and was piled up in a shallow ditch. I saw it about 50 yards out and "let" the boy take Ellie's leash so he would be the "first" to see the buck laying there , pile d up. The kid was elated. And so was his dad. And so was I.

I am 66. I have been hunting longer than this boy's dad has been sucking up good air. I still love to hunt (about anything), but I don;t go at it as hard as I once did. It this sort of stuff that fires me up nowadays.

If I knew how to post photos, I would. But I am pretty much an illiterate when it comes to that sort of stuff. Heck I can barely type !!
