It's called wildlife management, and there is NO group that does more for wildlife management than hunters do = $$$$ (to use an Obama phrase - "period").

But but besides the point mentioned above I would point out to this person you are debating how ridiculous it is for he or she to rather see wolves endangered than to have a healthy population just for the gratification of keeping hunters from killing them. The irony here is the fact that most animals killed by hunters are killed much more ethically than the blow mother nature would administer the animal in the wild.
