Default Importance of DHA in Puppies

I was looking at a 2012 issue of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association , where it says, "that feeding weaned puppies foods high in DHA improves several aspects of their development. The researchers found that diets rich in DHA showed improved cognitive, memory, psychomotor, immunologic, and retinal functions in growing dogs".

It went on to say, "Studies of puppies fed a balanced diet including the fatty acid DHA showed increases in the dogs' mental acuity. The puppies fed diets containing the highest levels of DHA showed significantly better results in reversal learning tasks, visual contrast discrimination, and early psychomotor performance than puppies eating low to moderate amounts of DHA. Interestingly, those puppies also had significantly higher rabies antibody titers one and two weeks after vaccination, and an improved ability to see in low-light or dark conditions".

These (plus other reasons) is why I recommend supplementing puppy diets with TUNA OIL instead of regular fish oil.
"Regular" Fish Oils contain some DHA (usually about 2 parts of EPA to 1 part DHA), but TUNA OIL contains 5 parts of DHA to 1 part EPA.

DHA has also been shown to improve hearing. It also markedly reduces the rate of Retinal Degeneration in older dogs.
