I don't find seeing elk with my 8.5x42s at two miles to be a problem. Again, the quality of the glass can make a difference. Many of us hunt in varied areas. Thick timber, open sage, steep canyon country... To the OP, I would suggest you look through various binos, comparing them with your current ones, as well as other brands. Look through both 10x and 8x. You may find some weight difference among different models and may find the 10x what you want after all, or may lean toward others. There is no right or wrong as there is a personal preference. Find what works for your eyes and your needs. Do remember that the smaller the objective, the more you will loose in low light.
