I've been using Hevi-Shot for over a dozen years for geese (2 3/4", #4 shot). I shoot them with a Beretta Silver Mallard (390) using the IC factory choke tube. I pattern tested several different choke tubes and found the factory IC to give very even patterns at 40 yards; better than any other chokes I had at the time. Most of my kills have been over decoys and very few birds hit the ground still alive. I've also had more than a couple of dozen one shot kills on geese 40 yards plus out to 82 paces. The Hevi-Shot component in your Hevi-Metal shells will do the job if you do yours. Try a more open choke on the pattern board and see what your gun/choke combination is doing at 40 yards. Look for even distribution with reasonable pellet count.
