There are some that deer do eat, if I remember correctly there are 6 kinds deer eat they are all the thin shelled hickory like the Pecan and pignut the black and water hickory , mocker nut and bitter nut. They have trouble with the thick shelled ones and won't try to eat them unless they are desperate.
