Cast iron is seasoned by prolonged heat over 400F and natural animal or plant fat based oils. There is no way BB will season a modern steel barrel with the millisecond of heat created by BP or subs.

Its not a skillet, dutch oven or a wok, its a modern steel barrel. Protect it like one.
