What you can do is have a fast recovery when you're in shape. It only takes a quick stop of 10 seconds as you're climbing to catch your breath, and then you can go on. You can also do this for much longer when you're in shape. In any case. You'll be breathing hard. Especially, if you have a load of elk meat on your back.
Good points. And being in shape helps a lot with endurance -- being able to keep going for the whole season. Or maybe this is what "in shape" means, having endurance. And again, in the context of elk hunting, endurance means keeping after it for 5 or more days in a row. A lot of people can get 'er done for a day or 2 days . . . and then they just flat poop out and can't go on.
