And yes, I am proficient with my .243. Deer usually just fall over, with cheap 100gr factory loads.
I wasn't a reloader when I hunted elk with a .243, either. 100gr CoreLokts in the green-and-yellow box. I use 180gr, 250gr, and sometimes even 300gr bullets on elk today because I can. But if all I had were a .243 again, you're darn right I'd be elk hunting with it.
