Yes, morning is generally better. Also if you can get a hen decoy
and set it where the birds can see it and about 15 yards from where you are set up that may help. Any chance of getting permission to hunt
the pasture where they want to go? It's always best to set up
in areas the Turkeys are normally using if you can.

Lastly most people that are just starting to Turkey hunt call
too much and frequently too loud. Once you have a response to
your box call set the call down and wait patiently. Let him
gobble several more times, before even thinking about
responding again and if the gobbles are getting closer
you may not want to call again at all. Exception to what
I've just said is if a hen responds to your call, then respond every time
she does trying to sound the same except louder---cut off her
calls with yours ---you want to make her so mad she comes to
kick your butt and hopefully brings the Tom with her.
