Default It helps to be awake

Well yesterday morning I went to a spot beside a creek where I have seen a lot of deer in the past. I had to get my son on the bus ,so I did' nt get to my spot until shortly before 8 am. I am hunting out of an ameristep brickhouse blind. I got in my blind and started rattling. I sat the a few minutes, then had another session of rattling. I then sat back in my chair with my bow in the holder beside me. I fell asleepfor a few minutes, and when I opened my eyes, there was a nice buck less than 10 yards from me and walking straight towards my blind. I immediately went into a panic mode because the deer would soon be past me. I got my bow out of the holder and the deer stopped a mere 4 yards from my blind. When I pulled the bow back the deer must have heard the arrow slide on the prongs of my rest because he turned and bounded off a short ways. He stopped and was looking back at my blind, but he could not figure out if it presented danger. The deer, as it turned out, was 24 yards from me and I placed my 30 yd pin on him and shot just over his back. As it turned out my buddy hunted a stand that afternoon that was only about 300 yards from where I missed the buck and he killed a deer that I believe is the same deer. It was a 9 point with a 19 inch outside spread. I guess it pays to be awake while you are hunting. I have seen that the ground blind does not appear to spook deer, but I guess it really helps to be awake when they come by.[:' (]
