When I saw the thread title, I got nervous that you'd be looking for a $300 or less scope to work at 1,000yrds... Glad you're more realistic about your budget!

The Leupold VX-3 LRT's are still right around that $1000 mark, 6.5-20x50mm or 8.5-25x50mm. Big benefit of the Leupolds is the extreme adjustment range, can dial a LOT of drop even without an angled base.

I'm not sure the 6.5-20x50 Ziess MC Conquest is still under $1,000, my wife had one on her WSM for a while, but the internal adjustment was a limiting factor for that particular model. Same issue for the higher magnification Nikon Monarchs also - disappointing when you get it home then realize how limited they are.

I believe the Bushnell Elite 4-32x50mm is still under $1000 also. Not as much internal adjustment as I'd like, but ya can't beat that zoom range.

"Fixies" can be had cheaper, but high mag fixed power scopes are kinda hard to use outside of long range work. I've borrowed a T-36 for a test drive, betting it still runs quite a bit less than $1000 even today.
