Please double check my deer knowledge.
Ok, here is what I *think* I have learned about deer. Please correct anything you think I am wrong about.
1) Deer move mostly at night but can be taken at first light and right before sundown. The rut and cold weather (freezing and below) can lead to daytime movement
2) Deer sign like scrapes and rubs are visited at night so don' t hunt over them
3) Deer sign in fields and on the fields edges were probably made at night
4) Deer love white oak acorns and don' t like red oak acorns so don' t set up in red oaks.
5) Deer eat at night and sleep during the day
6) Mature bucks always walk down wind so they can smell for you and does in heat.
7) Hunt the beds in the morning and food at night
8) Deer like very thick areas and swamps
9) Areas where it changes from mature woods to thickets and swamps are good to hunt
10) Does move first and bucks follow behind
11) Does will walk main trials but bucks take secondary trails and odd routes
12) Stands higher then 15 feet help keep your scent off the ground
13) Deer usually stay within a square mile area.
14) Bucks like to be higher up on hill sides
15) Bucks live in different bedding areas then does
16) Golf courses are visted at night
17) Deer are smarter then me!
Thanks
