Shooting instinctively with a recurve has provided me with one great point: shoot at a spot on the deer, NOT the whole deer. I' m not good enough to take the recurve afield so I use my compound, but it' s the same thing with pins. If you shoot at the whole deer rather than a tuft of hair, chances are you' ll miss or worse yet, make a bad shot. Even when you concentrate on anchor point, being calm, and picking your spot, if at the last instant before release you focus back on the entire deer rather than that little spot, same thing - a bad shot. Easier said than done I know, but it' ll come to be second nature. And as others have said, follow through is key as well - hold that bow steady until the arrow has gone through the deer.
